“Please, Treebeard,” he said, “could I ask you about something? Why did Celeborn warn us against your forest? He told us not to risk getting entangled in it.” Soon they will be in the crooks of his arms for gentle carrying. They are in his hands for careful examination. Alan Lee depicts the moment when Treebeard first picks up the hobbits. This is very different, soon Merry and Pippin begin to feel “safe and comfortable”, hobbit curiosity gets the better of Pippin and there is something he wants to know. Their arms were gripped like iron with orcs’ fingernails biting into their flesh. The hobbits have had plenty of experience of being carried in the past few days but the last one was by orcs, “seized like a sack” and crushed into their necks. 607-611Ĭarefully but firmly holding Merry and Pippin in the crooks of his arms Treebeard makes his way through the Forest of Fangorn. This was a training session a week before the Transylvania 100K, a trail running race through the mountains of Transylvania, which takes place in Romania in the second half of May.The Two Towers by J.R.R Tolkien (Harper Collins 1991, 2007) pp. Hiking in the mist of morning in the Bucegi Mountains Nice view over the Bolboci Lake We lost the trail and found the Dragon’s layer Bolboci lake Thick fog after we exited the forest More fog Fresh bear prints Thick fog and more snow Finally the sky started to clear The weather started to look more and promising as we started our descent We crossed a few creeks The last traces of snow Moieciu de Sus, Romania We lost the trail again and had to walk through the people’s yards Steep climb but nice views A look back to the mountains we hiked a few hours before Completely different scenery than the one in the morning Walking on the hills near Moieciu de Sus We lost the trail again… Excellent weather and views over the Piatra Craiului Mountains Bucegi Mountains Clearing the path Yey! Horses! Piatra Craiului Mountains in the distance Tall pine trees Going up into the Bucegi Mountains again There’s a bear in this photo The bear Short break to share the encounter with the bear on social media The sun was starting to set The Eye of Sauron It was a great hike, but let’s leave the photos to tell the story. We lost the trail several times, had some incredible views, interesting weather, winter and summer on the same day and yes, we also met some beasts and dragons along the way. We started our hike at the Bolboci lake and hiked to Saua Strunga and then headed down to Moieciu de Sus and from there to Gutanu and finally to the village of Simon, near the Bran Castle.Īll in all, it ended up being an incredible hiking trip that would make any Tolkien fan jealous. We were especially excited about this hiking trip because we would walk on trails we hadn’t been on before and discover the side of mountain that was yet unknown to us. That day we had planned to go for a long hike in the mystical Bucegi Mountains of Romania and I thought it would be funny if we met some wargs and goblins along the way. I woke up early that morning and while I was getting up-to-date with the recent news, I stumbled upon this post on Facebook: Who would want to experience the nature of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit without all those bad creatures? S. A long hike in a fantastic weather with scenery reminding of The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.
